Tandoori chicken is a well-known Indian meal that is usually prepared by marinating chicken pieces in a mixture of yogurt and other spices and then cooking them in a traditional clay oven called a tandoor. As a result, the chicken is extremely tasty, juicy, and bright red in color.
Ingredients:
- 1 kilogram (approximately 2 pounds) of bone-in chicken breasts, thighs, or drumsticks
- Yogurt, plain, one cup
- Lemon juice, two tablespoons
- 2 teaspoons of tandoori masala, an Indian grocery store spice mix
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste (or ginger and garlic that have been finely chopped)
- 1 teaspoon of cumin, ground
- 1 teaspoon of coriander, ground
- 1 paprika teaspoon (for color)
- One-half teaspoon of turmeric powder
- Adjust the amount of red chili powder to your preferred level of heat.
- Salt as desired
- oil, 2 tablespoons
- garnish with fresh cilantro leaves
- serving slices of lemon
Instructions:
- Use a sharp knife to make shallow cuts all over the chicken pieces. This will aid in the meat's absorption of the marinade.
- Yogurt, lemon juice, tandoori masala, ginger-garlic paste, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, red chili powder, salt, and oil should all be combined in a big bowl. For a smooth paste, thoroughly combine.
- Make sure the chicken pieces are evenly covered with the marinade before adding them. To enable the flavors to meld, cover the bowl and refrigerate the chicken for at least two hours, preferably overnight.
- Set your oven's temperature to 450°F (230°C). Use your barbecue or tandoor if you have one instead.
- A wire rack should be positioned on top of an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet. Place the pieces of marinated chicken on the wire rack and let any extra marinade drip off.
- Cook the chicken in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until it is thoroughly cooked and appears slightly browned. For more char, you can broil the chicken for the final 1-2 minutes.
- After the chicken has finished cooking, take it out of the oven and give it some time to rest.
- Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side and fresh cilantro leaves as a garnish.
Typically, tandoori chicken is served with rice, naan bread, or a side salad. It can be eaten as a starter or a major dish. It is a popular dish for many because of the smoky aromas and fragrant spices.
